Osgood blinked. She was lying on a carpet looking up at florescent lights. Pulling herself up to a seated position, she could see a couch, a coffee table, and a few upholstered chairs with arms. It looked like a doctor’s waiting room, or really any nice office waiting room. But she had no idea how she’d gotten here. The last thing she remembered was that awful Missy telling her she had less than a minute to live.

“Oh good, you’re awake.” Great, just great. She didn’t know how she’d gotten here, but that was clearly Missy’s annoying voice. She blinked again and saw Missy sitting on the couch she’d swear had been unoccupied seconds ago.

“How...” Osgood started.

“You thought I killed you?” Missy laughed. “Actually I did. We’re both dead.”

Osgood felt her pulse rising and scrambled to her feet, fists clenched. “If we’re both dead, how are we carrying on this conversation?”

Missy just smiled. “We were pulverized. Dust. But did you really think I would invent a weapon without providing an escape-mechanism in the unlikely event it was used against me? So here we are. But not here. Not really anywhere. Pixels, hovering in storage between life and death.”

“So how do we get out?” Osgood demanded, hands on her hips.

“All in good time. You’re a smart young woman. Behave yourself and you will be returned to the living when the time is right. In the meantime...care for a game of scrabble?” Missy pulled a scrabble set from out of nowhere and set it on the coffee table.

I’m definitely dead, Osgood though. I’ve died and gone to hell. She looked around the room, scanning for doors, windows, anything.

“I can assure you there’s no way out.”

Right. Okay. Osgood pulled up a chair across from Missy. “I have to warn you I am quite good at scrabble,” she said.

“Oh, I’m counting on it,” Missy answered with a smile.

Love this!!! I think Osgood would make a great companion. Too bad characters like her never seem to survive on Doctor Who!

And my characters finally started talking to me today. I wrote 712 words. YAY!

Osgood would have been fantastic as a companion. If they don't bring her back (which would be such a waste of a good character) perhaps Big Finish will write her into some of their stories. We can hope...

I'm glad your characters are talking to you! :-)

LOL, scrabble is my idea of hell too! Though Osgood is probably much more clever at it than I am. :)

My excuse (even after 22 years) is that English is my second language... admittedly I'd be equally bad in German

"Prejudge", said Osgood, "J on a double, twenty-seven, and through both triples, two hundred and forty three. And D on the end of Vapourised is another sixteen, making two five nine... Oh, and a bonus fifty... That makes the score so far five hundred and thirty for me and..." She glanced up at Missy's face, "eighty three for you. Your turn."

Missy smiled sweetly and looked at her tiles. It was going to be a long eternity.

Ooh, I like that! What a mismatch! Are they limiting it to English?

Too bad Osgood didn't stay away from Missy in the first place. Actually, I don't think that would have made much difference, since Missy had already unlocked her cuffs.....

I think Osgood will have the advantage if they limit it to English. Hard to know about other Earth languages. If they use the Gallifreyan deck, Missy would do well. However, Osgood would be brilliant with the Klingon version! :-)

Ooh, a Klingon version? Now that match, I'd love to see!

Oooh, this is fantastic! There MUST be a way that Osgood isn't permanently dead *wishes on every star in the universe* and it only makes sense that Missy would find a way to bring *herself* back--she IS The Master after all *grins*

Moffatt is a cruel, cruel man so we probably won't see Osgood anytime soon, but anything is possible in Doctor Who. Look how many times Rory was brought back from the dead! And none of it makes any sense, but it doesn't need to -- it's Doctor Who! Of course Missy will come back. The Master always comes back!

This was great! Loved the concept of it. I'm still wounded from Osgood's death so I like to see how people would bring her back. Well done!

Just lovely- great capture of Missy's quirkiness. And I'll keeping hoping for an Osgood return.
